An After-School Surprise

After bus duty this afternoon, I walked back into the building and found a surprise waiting for me by my classroom door.

Former student, David Wu!

(Who is now taller than me, as you can tell from our selfie.)

David is one of "the twelve," as I think of them - the twelve children who had me for three years (3rd, 4th, and 5th grades.) Another group of kids had me for three years, too, (2nd, 4th, and 5th) but the mix of kids in the first group was highly unusual, and the kids formed strong bonds that are still intact. While I love both classes of students, "the twelve" are my favorite class that I have ever taught. And lucky me got them for THREE whole years!

Saying that he had been driving by and just thought he would stop in and say hello, we ended up sitting in my classroom for a half hour with David telling me about himself, the other children from the twelve and what they've been doing, and his plans for the future. (Pharmacy school at Purdue or perhaps getting his M.D.)

It was so, so good to see David again. I hope he pops in again.
