My mother has kept her ornament tree out for years, sitting on the buffet in her dining room. Last Saturday she asked me to unpack it from her move to University Place and set the ornament tree up for her. I was only too happy to oblige, although I was nervous.
The ornaments are very fragile - all are at least eighty years old! I was nervous about placing them on the tines of the metal tree, afraid I might break one.
This vintage balloon still has some of the original netting on it.
To my surprise, my mother came over, sat down, and began hanging them herself!
She spent a little time telling me about the pieces.
But sadly she did not want me to record anything. I'll have to do my best to remember.
For example, she mentioned how much she loved this one because it was a bouquet of roses
Soon all twelve of the ornaments were hung.
It was a tender moment - a shared experience with one of my mother’s most precious heirlooms.
