A Surprise for the Teacher

One day just after Thanksgiving, my students politely asked me to leave the classroom so they could "talk." They even provided a chair for me to sit on, and a sign that read, "Not in trouble" to hold. (When they spread out into the hallway to work, I give them that same sign so people walking by won't think they've done something wrong. They were just returning the favor!)

I got kicked out several more times as December progressed, and this week I have been finding out why there was all the secrecy. Each day I have discovered a wrapped package hidden somewhere in the room.
Monday NO ONE gave it away that a gift was hidden in the room, and I didn't find it until 2:00 in the afternoon. How 28 kids kept quiet all day without giving it away is a mystery to me!
Each gift has been tagged, "Day 1," "Day 2," etc. Inside has been classic books.

So far I have received Shiloh, The Enormous Egg, Great Expectations, and Pollyanna.
The children are SO excited about their gifts to me, and I am finding it not only fun but also very touching. Clearly they have spent a lot of time planning, coordinating, and preparing my week of gifts.
