Our foyer is a two story one, and open to the second floor. (I love that openness.) Midway up on one wall is a wide shelf (actually, it's the top of the coat closet.) We have the antique caned chair from the orchard, an immigrant trunk from Craig's grandfather, a quilt in the drunken sailor pattern that my Grandma Martin gave me, and my hen basket up there.
Since we moved into the home in 2006, I've wanted to put a small Christmas tree there, too, during the holidays, but the logistics have been more than I could do after decorating the rest of the house. I couldn't climb the ladder to get it up there, and I didn't feel right about asking Craig to do it for yet another holiday decoration.
This year is different. Kyle put a tree up there for me when he was here at Thanksgiving.
I absolutely LOVE this tree and having it lit up at night for all to see. You can even see it from the street through the arched window above the front door as it twinkles merrily up there.
Thanks, Kyle. I think of you every time I switch it on and have come to think of it as your tree!
